Here’s an update from our wonderful Walk for Waste organiser, Sally Talbot.
It’s time for the annual Walk for Waste, this time to the highest peak in England – Scafell Pike in the Lake District.
On the afternoon of Saturday 15 July, WasteAid supporters will gather at Wasdale Head to climb to the summit for sunset! Join us for a fantastic day with friends and colleagues, and help raise money to train more people in recycling and decent waste management.
Everyone is invited to join us on this, our second fundraising walk, to raise funds so that WasteAid can help more communities develop affordable recycling programmes. We also want to raise awareness of the need for proper waste management; getting your bins emptied on a regular basis is something many of us take for granted, but for many across the world, living next to decomposing rubbish is the unhealthy reality.
Last year, waste professionals together with their family and friends raised over £7,000 walking to the summit of Snowdon. Andrew Jenkins, Buckinghamshire County Council, even managed to carry a 240 litre wheely bin full of recycling to the top!! Of course, carrying a bin is entirely optional! It promises to be a challenge, with a tough ascent and head torches a must for the descent… all we ask is that you are physically fit and over the age of 16.
This year we are particularly keen to get teams of colleagues together and take part. In doing so we have managed to reduce the cost of participation for 5 or more to £18 per person. Individuals of course are very welcome too and can participate at the same cost as last year, £20 per person. These costs are simply to pay for experienced, trained mountain guides to help us on our way.
In addition to the participation fee we have a guide sponsorship level of £50 per person which can be pooled for those signing up as part of a team.
Getting involved is really simple: Go to justgiving.com/wasteaiduk and donate £20 to join, with the message “Walk for Waste 2017”. Then email email@example.com who will give you advice on getting the sponsorship money rolling in! That’s all there is to it – oh, and climbing the mountain…
The closing date for registration is 15 June – so please, why not get your colleagues together, have a fun day out and raise money for a much needed cause.

If hiking isn’t your thing, you can still support the team with some sponsorship! justgiving.com/wasteaiduk
